One of the happiest moments in a woman’s life is when she finds she is pregnant. This is a magical event, accompanied by very happy emotions, but also worries. They are all normal. Every future mother asks a lot of questions – whether everything will be fine with the baby, how we can deal with child care, and many others. There are already many sources of information, as well as many places where we can get help from. So if we get informed and try to keep calm, things are sorted out.
I decided to write articles for the first, second, and third trimesters to share my excitement, thoughts, and experiences through which I passed while I was pregnant.
I found out that I was pregnant in the first two weeks because I had blood tests. Although we were expecting the baby when I understood I was pregnant, I was very excited and happy, but also a little frightened.
Soon after, I went to a doctor and he confirmed the happy news. She then explained to me what I had to do during pregnancy. Of course, after that, I sought additional information on all the issues I was excited about. There is no way to describe everything in an article and a nutshell. But I think the best thing we can do when we find out that we will have a baby is to consult a doctor to monitor our pregnancy, to guard against excessive physical and mental stress, and to eat healthier and more balanced. Don’t worry too much, there is time to prepare for the baby. What I did was that. I was trying to enjoy my pregnancy and my free time. I stopped working after the fourth month. I was doing what I like – I was resting, reading books, walking every day, going out with friends, and prepared lists of the most necessary things for the baby (newborn must-have products, baby first aid kit, and hospital bag). With purchases from the lists, I started at the end of the sixth month. And at the end of the eighth month, we had bought everything.
The first trimester is the most dangerous period of the pregnancy
Yes, it is a dangerous period, both for the development of the baby and the mother. Pregnancy is different for every woman – some feel full of life and others feel lifeless. However, because of hormonal changes, there are some signs that are characteristic of pregnancy and occur almost with each woman during this period.
The most common symptoms for the first trimester of pregnancy are:
– Morning sickness (nausea)
Morning sickness is one of the most common pregnancy symptoms, and it is the result of hormone changes in the body, and it can last through the entire first trimester. For some pregnant woman nausea is mild, but for others could be awful. It is different for every woman. Nausea is usually worst in the morning, but also could continue throughout the whole day, as was in my case. To relieve your morning sickness, try eating small crackers, cheese, apple juice. You may want to do even do this before getting out of your bed. Try different things and see what is works for you.
– Breast tenderness
Sore breast is one of the earliest signs of pregnancy because of the hormonal changes. Going up a bra size or wearing a supporting bra will make you feel comfortable.
The reason for constipation is that during pregnancy the muscle contractions that normally move food through your intestines slow down (because of higher levels of the hormone progesterone). For constipation can help more fiber and drink extra fluids. And physical activities can help too.
– Frequent urination
This is because your uterus is growing and it is putting pressure on your bladder. But drink more fluids because your baby and you need them.
– Mood swings
Because of hormonal changes, it’s normal to have a lot of mood swings and feel excited and unhappy or irritable and terrified.
You may feel more tired than usual, and this is because your body is working hard to support a growing fetus. So rest when you need and take care of yourself.
– Food cravings and aversions
That’s normal and most pregnant women experience food cravings and/or food aversions. Eat what you want, but just make sure you eat healthy food most of the time.
– Weight gain
Weight gain is considered a good thing during pregnancy, but too many kilos are not good for mother and baby health. The doctors say that pregnant women should gain about 3 to 6 pounds during the first trimester. Hormones are changing and so every woman is different– you may have more appetite or have no appetite. Both are normal. Just don’t “eat for two” – it’s a myth.
During the first trimester of my pregnancy
I had all the symptoms. They appeared at the beginning of the second month. I was tired and slept more, my breasts increased greatly in the third month, I often went to the toilet, I had constipation from the second month to the end of pregnancy, and I was easily switching from one mood to another. I have not vomited throughout my pregnancy. But my morning sickness in the first three months was not just in the morning, but it continued all day. Honestly, it was terrible, but it passed by the end of the fourth month. My belly has become very big. Some women do not seem to be pregnant until the fifth or even sixth month. And at the end of the third month, I looked very pregnant. One more thing – during this period I was really hungry. I was constantly thinking about food, but at least I was trying to eat smaller quantities and more fresh fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Тhere are many changes in the woman’s body during the first trimester of pregnancy, and they occur suddenly. The good thing is that by the fourth month the body of the mother adapts to them and things get normal.
Take care of yourself. Beware and do not overwhelm. Here are some of the most important things to do during the first trimester:
– Avoid caffeine
During pregnancy, doctors recommend a maximum of one cup of coffee a day. Especially during the first trimester. I love to drink coffee. Before I got pregnant, I drank four coffees a day. After I got pregnant, however, I stopped drinking coffee because I was getting sick of his scent. Interestingly, I started drinking coffee three months after the baby was born.
It’s great for both mother and baby. If you have been training regularly before, there is no reason to stop if you feel well. Exercises should be light, and you should avoid new and very difficult tasks. Talk to a doctor and instructor about what’s right for you during this period.
– Drink plenty of water!
Talk to your doctor about what vitamins you should take, they are important, so do not miss them.
– Stretch mark creams
Using such a cream will make your skin more elastic and smooth, but that doesn’t mean that stretch marks will not appear. This depends on the type of skin. Some women smear all kinds of creams and oils, but they still have stretch marks. And some don’t use creams or use very little and don’t have stretch marks. I was lucky and no stretch marks appeared on my belly. The products I used were Palmer’s cream for stretch marks, cocoa butter, and coconut oil. I used them once or twice a day, after the third month. Also, during pregnancy, the skin around the breasts grows really faster and can result in stretch marks. I used the same products for my breasts, but unfortunately without much success. So, you see, that in my case, I use really good products (in my opinion), and I don’t have any stretch marks on my belly, but I have some on my breasts.
– Healthy eating
In general, it’s not necessary to change your eating habits. Just try to eat a variety of meals and more fresh fruits and vegetables.
